  4.     Learning to fly is a breeze compared with writing children's
  5. books, as fledgling author the Duchess of York is discovering this
  6. week. One reviewer charges that Budgie, the Little Helicopter, the
  7. first of her two tales, reinforces "ugly stereotypes." The
  8. freckle-faced Budgie whirls into a complex plot that soars right
  9. over the heads of the three-to-six set. The action is menacing,
  10. featuring swarthy kidnapers who abduct Rose, a little blond girl,
  11. and hold her for ransom. The chopper rotors to the rescue at the
  12. end, but maybe Princess Bea's mum isn't quite ready for literary
  13. flight.
